Who Can Join the Club?

Anyone having a mailing address in the Greater Washington DC area either with a degree from MIT or possessing any of the other qualifications required for associate or honorary membership in the MIT Alumni Association (http://alum.mit.edu/benefits/AboutTheAssociation/Governance/Constitution#a3) may join as a voting member.  As of March 17, 2010, these include people who had completed one undergrad term or two graduate terms (whichever is relevant) of one of the following programs: Harvard-MIT Division of Health Sciences and Technology (HST), Special Program in Urban Studies and Planning (SPURS), Singapore-MIT Alliance, Cambridge-MIT Alliance (CMI), Post-Doctoral Students, MIT-Zaragoza International Logistics Program, Postdoctoral Training Program at the Whitehead Institute for Biomedical Research, and Knight Science Journalism Fellows.

In addition, as of March 17, 2010, certain other DC-area individuals associated with MIT may join the Club as "Friends," with all the privileges of membership except the right to vote. These are current students (free), parents of current students, spouses of deceased alums, and current and former MIT faculty, including ROTC professors.

STEM Initiative -- High School Science Fair Awards Program Contributions

In 2009, the Club initiated an award to recognize excellence in local high school science fairs. We believe such added recognition from an MIT alumni organization will emphasize the importance of science, math, and engineering achievement at middle and high schools and encourage further student studies in these areas. Local MIT alums judge the science projects, and we present $150, a certificate, and subscription to Technology Review to an outstanding 11th grade project in each science fair in the Washington area. Our efforts in each of the last two school years were extremely well received by students, school/fair officials, and the MIT judges, so the Club wants to continue the award program. The cost of this program is estimated to be $2,000 annually. Your donation of any amount in support of this and our other STEM efforts will be greatly appreciated!

You can contribute at the same time as you pay your dues or anytime at all, either by check or online by credit card.

Scholarship Contributions

We have one of the highest scholarship funds of any MIT Club in the world. As of June, 2016 the book value of the Scholarship Fund was $478.975--this is the actual amount given by the Club/members to this scholarship--and the market value was $1,087,374. Your scholarship donations help MIT educate the best and the brightest from the Greater Washington DC area.

You can contribute at the same time as you pay your dues or anytime at all, either by check or online by credit card.

Undirected Contributions

Support the Club (e.g., outreach programs) with an undirected contribution. You can contribute at the same time as you pay your dues or anytime at all, either by check or online by credit card.

The MIT Club of Washington, D.C. is an IRS Section 501(c)(3) charitable corporation, EIN 52-1184031, and contributions are tax deductible to the extent permitted by law.
